The region of Kratie is located 250 km northeast of Phnom Penh where the Mekong River flows from the north to the south of the province.  It is known for its attractive riverside scenery and its green villages and paddies.  The region has various agricultural cultures such as rubber tree plantations that produce rubber used in manufacturing car tires. There are also tobacco plantations that can be visited from October to April.
The Mekong River flows into different parts of the region, forming islands. It is the home to the fresh water Irrawaddy dolphins, an endangered species and the best time to see them is during sunset.
