The giant stone faces of Bayon temple became one of the most famous of classic Khmer art and architecture. There are 52 towers; most of them have 4 carved faces facing each of the 4 cardinal points. The most beautiful parts of the temple are bas-reliefs on the exterior walls on the lower level and the upper level where there are also stone faces. The bas-reliefs on the southern wall describe scenes from the historic sea battle between the Khmers and the Chams. Scenes of daily life that are scattered between the representations of battle scenes are also very interesting. We can also see scenes taking place at the market, birth scenes or scenes of chess playing and cockfights.
