Culinary escapade in Siem Reap, 4 days

Day 1     SIEM REAP: ARRIVAL & KHMER COCKTAIL CLASS       
Upon arrival, welcome by the local guide at Siem Reap airport, transfer and check-in at the hotel. Note: Rooms are available from 2pm. Visit the ancient capital of Angkor Thom, a huge architectural complex with the famous Bayon Temple at its center. Then, explore Baphuon that was fully restored by a team of French archaeologists after 16 years of work. Transfer in the late afternoon to the “Old wooden house” for a surprising class. For an hour, participants learn the preparation of typical Khmer cocktails based on aromatic herbs and spices, the opportunity to learn about the spieces available in Cambodia.

Day 2     SIEM REAP: DISCOVER THE LOCAL FLAVORS                            (B/D)
After breakfast, visit the National Museum and then depart by bicycle or a motorcycle trailer ("rem ok", to be advised upon reservation) for the Preah Khan Temple which was probably the royal residence during the construction of Angkor Thom. It was built at the time by Jayavarman VII during the second half of the 12th century. In the afternoon, visit Angkor Wat (early-mid 12th century) dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. This huge temple-mountain, built by King Suryavarman II is considered as the masterpiece of the Khmer architecture and art. Degustation dinner revealing the wonders of the Khmer cuisine, another way to travel and experience the destination. Mostly based from Indian and Chinese ancient gastronomy, the country's cuisine has developed over the centuries and has even exported itself in Thailand...

Day 3    SIEM REAP: COOKING CLASS                              (B/L)
After breakfast, stroll through the local market and select the ingredients that will be used during the cooking class. Cambodia is rich of spices, vegetables and surprising tropical fruits. A trip to the market is a natural awakening for the senses... An hour later, the lesson begins under the direction of an authentic local chef. The course includes the preparation of several dishes for lunch. In the afternoon, visit a center of the golden silk production to learn about this ancient craft, followed by the visit of the marvelously restored Bantey Samre Temple. Drive to the famous Bantey Srey Temple the “Citadel of Women”. This small pink sandstone temple (late 10th century) is considered to be a jewel in the crown of classical Khmer art because of its delicate carvings. Then, return back to the hotel.

Day 4     SIEM REAP                           (B)
After breakfast, visit the twin temples of Chau Say Thommanon and Tevoda, the unfinished temple-mountain of Ta Keo, the holy water basin of Srah Srang, and the Banteay Kdei monastery. Finally, discover the fascinating Ta Phrom Temple, probably one of the most famous monuments with Angkor Wat and the Bayon. This former monastery is still surrounded by the jungle. Note: Rooms shall be released by 12pm (noon). Depending on the flight schedule, transfer to the airport for the departure flight.
