Discovering the Lost Temples, 2 days

Day 1     SIEM REAP – KOH KER – PREAH VIHEAR                   (L)
Early morning depart to Beng Mealea, located about 40 km east of Siem Reap. This temple was built between 1112 and 1152 by King Suryavarman II. It would have served as a model to build Angkor Wat. The site is still magical when walking on the bridges which span the ruins of the temple. It was made famous by the movie Director Jean-Jacques Annaud who shot the film Two Brothers in these ruins. From there, drive through the countryside to reach the Koh Ker Temple, the ancient capital of the Khmer kingdom from 928 to 944. It is dominated by a mountain temple of 30 meters high, rising above the forest. The road continues north toward the Preah Vihear Temple located in the province of the same name. It was erected in the first half of the 9th century and is located on a cliff overlooking the Cambodian plain.
Overnight at Preah Vihear.

After an early breakfast, walk through the ruins of the Preah Vihear Temple, second site of the country listed as World Heritage by UNESCO since 2008. This former pilgrimage area is dedicated to Shiva and overlooks a spectacular view over the plain of Cambodia; it stands out for its remarkable architecture and low reliefs. Then drive to the famous Banteay Srei Temple nicknamed the "Citadel of Women". This small pink sandstone temple dating from the end of the 10th century is considered as a jewel of classical Khmer art due to the refinement and beauty of its carvings. On the way back to Siem Reap, visit Chao Srey Vibol, a temple recently opened to visitors. It is impressive and still buried in the jungle. Before reaching the city, visit Bantey Samre, beautifully restored. Arrive in Siem Reap in the afternoon.
