Loikaw & South of Inle Lake, 3 days

Day 1     KALAW – LOIKAW                   (L)
In the morning, welcome by the local guide then departu by road to Loikaw (approximately 5 hours), located in Kaya State, and recently opened to foreign visitors. Loikaw is a picturesque town with typical houses dotted with coconut trees, the best view over Loikaw is from the perched pagoda in the city centre. Different ethnic minorities live in the region, and they can be seen twice a week in the Demawso Market. The notorious Padaung women waer brass or gold spiral necklaces stretching their necks. Check-in at the hotel on arrival. Lunch is at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the pagoda in the town center offering an interesting view of the city and surroundings, then detour to stroll through the local market.
Overnight at Loikaw.

Note: Loikaw and its region have received no foreign tourists for many years. The tradition of necklaces is therefore not the result of tourist influx but indeed a centuries-old tradition.

Day 2     LOIKAW – SAGAR                (B/L)
After breakfast, transfer by road to the pier of Phae Kone. Board a motorboat to cruise upwards, crossing the three”pools” composing the vast Inle Lake. Arrival in Sagar after a 2-hour journey. Sagar is a forgotten archeological site, on the south of Inle Lake, flooded in the middle of the 20th century. The impressive remains of a majestic past are nestled in the hills or buried under water: stupas, temples and pagodas taken over by wilderness are prisoners of time and vegetation. Lunch is during excursion. Overnight at Sagar (simple & basicamenities: a mattress with mosquito net).

Note: Accommodation in Sagar is limited and offering a very simple comfort.

Day 3     SAGAR – INLE LAKE – NYAUNG SHWE                    (B/L)
After breakfast, navigation to the forgotten site of Maw Bi and its dozens of stupas before reaching the main part of Inle Lake. Cruise among lakeside villages to observe the lifestyle of its inhabitants - the ‘Inthas’ or ‘Sons of Lake’ who live in the middle of the lake and the unique style of fishermen rowing the boat by standing and rolling one leg around the paddle while holding their cone shape fishing basket. Lunch is at local restaurant. In the afternoon, stop at weaving villages, floating gardens, Ngaphe Chaung monastery and Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda. Arrive in Nyaung Shwe.
